Now I'm not one to gossip but I'll admit I rather enjoy reading dishes about celebs & have come across some interesting items dealing with DS stars. Not claiming everything written is true (but based on what people, including the actors, have said, it seems a lot of it is), but is still interesting to read. And probably close as we're gonna get to a tell-all, if you don't count KLS's work of 'fiction' that is Dark Passages.source: forums.televisionwithoutpity.com/lofiversion/index.php/t3173853-1200.html1) Jonathan (Barnabas Collins) Frid and Grayson (Julia Hoffman) Hall did not always get along with each other. Frid thought Hall overacted and Hall would get annoyed with Frid because he forgot his lines so often. 2) One prominent DS actress had an affair with one of her male co-stars. It resulted in said co-star's marriage breaking up. Years later, this actress attempted to get a role on a hit ABC series in the mid-70's. She was deep-sixed, however, because the show had already cast the scorned ex-wife of that cheating actor. She refused to work with the other woman. 3) Also, that prominent actress often slept with one of DARK SHADOWS' writers so she would be assured of always appearing on the series no matter how many times her character was killed off. 4) One of the show's child actresses now attending the cons as an adult tries to hook up with male attendees and usually fails. This could be because most male DS fans seem to be gay. She also gets roaring drunk. 5) Joan Bennett would relax in her dressing room with something alcoholic yet was appalled when two male members of the cast smoked pot at the DS studio one day.

Thanks for posting all these links, Sara! I spent a very enjoyable Saturday morning, coffee cup in hand, reading them.
Although I watched the show when it first aired, I am relatively new to the 'fandom' element. So reading the reviews of the DS fests was especially fun. A decade after DS went off the air, I was a wife and mom, and I guess I was just too busy with that to know what all was going on. That and not living on either coast. (Texas is big, but not that big. LOL)
They actually PUBLISHED AND SOLD DS fan fiction?? Wild! I wrote a lot of fan fiction for 'Alias' (online) when it was still on the air, and am toying with some DS/Willie fiction at the moment. But that is more of a fun project for me. I use it as a warm-up for some other writing projects I have going. I have never even checked out any DS fan fiction sites to see what's out there. Trying to avoid them, actually, til I finish my humble stories. When I do finally decide to, where is the one good place to start reading?

They actually PUBLISHED AND SOLD DS fan fiction??
In fanzine form, mostly. (And probably S.E. Hinton's Hawkes Harbor) Actually I think most of the good fanfiction I've read has mainly come from zines. Only problem is they're so pricey to collect. Probably the best online DS fiction I've read has come from Mary E. Overstreet www.fantrest.com/willie/fanfic.htm& Sylvia Bond / N.J. Nidiffer 's stuff sylvia-bond.livejournal.com/18393.htmlAtleast as far as stories where Willie's the main character. They're rather well written, imo, but my only complaint is that they all seem to fall into the Torture & /Hurt/comfort type of fanfic. And sometimes there's only so many times I can read about Poor Willie getting beaten to death. I had one older site linked that seem to have a lot of stories, but I haven't really gone through them all, at: web.archive.org/web/20030124183632/http://dsfanfic.com/One title I did enjoy that was linked there, was 'THE UNTOLD TALE' web.archive.org/web/20021206074821/http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Corridor/5452/untold1.htmlI'd also like to see your fiction when finished! I seem to only be able to mentally write fan fiction. Getting it out on paper or on the computer is usually too difficult for me.

Thanks for the info! I'll be sure to look into those. And, as soon as I am done with the story(ies) I am working on, I'll let you know. You really should get those stories from your head onto paper! Even if it's for your own amusement. You might surprise yourself. I like writing backstories, and they are dialogue heavy. I was 'famous' for my sparse prose in my Alias-fic days. Just can't get into long paragraphs with tons of description. It's hard for me to read that kind of thing on a computer, so I don't want to strain the eyes of my readers either. LOL (And dialogue is so much more fun to write!)

Well, regarding writing down the fan fiction, I used to scribble some stuff down at my last job, when I could get away with it. But again, trying to rewrite that stuff & improve the grammer & bad spelling... But maybe someday. I still daydream & think of stuff when I'm bored or am trying to get to sleep. Back to dishing, 'The official "Friends of Roger" coverage of Dark Shadows Fest 2006 on August 25-27 in Brooklyn, New York' provides some funny tidbits & comments: comicwidows.snooble.com/road/index.php?link=0017I especially like the bit about Lara Parker & and Kathryn Leigh Scott being the "Bette and Joan of the Dark Shadows world" ;D

Thanks for posting all those links to Fest reviews. It's interesting to see that from a stranger's point of view. (And gratifying to be complimented the way she did my writing.)
I wanted to clear one thing up, though. In 2001, I think it was, she says the John Karlen didn't get to do his dramatic reading because the fan who wrote it couldn't find her copy for him. That is not true! I GAVE him a somewhat large-print, easy-to-read copy at his room either that morning or the day before. (I don't remember when exactly.) Anyway, right before he was to go on, I was asked if I had another copy because he couldn't find his. So I had to run back up to the room and get it, and when I got back to the ballroom, Jim said it was too late, there wasn't time. Ack. Not my fault, though. John's fault. Goofus. I thought he'd want time to read over it first. I should have known he'd lose it.
I tried to register with them, so I could tell her, but it never would let me in. Very frustrating.
